Montpelier Slave Descendants Reunion, June 8-10, 2007

A Message From the Reunion Committee Chairman

Hello Family and Friends,

Welcome to the 2007 Montpelier Slave Descendants Reunion website. We are very pleased with it and hope that you will be too.

I am happy to inform you that the 2007 Montpelier Slave Descendants Reunion Committee has been working to help make your June 8 - 10, 2007 reunion at James Madison's Montpelier a memorable occasion. We have a wonderful agenda planned for you while you are visiting Montpelier and Orange County, Virginia.

It will be fun to see old friends and relatives. I hope you will meet and make new friends during your visit.

James Madison's Montpelier is going through some major changes. The mansion is undergoing restoration. Construction is underway to restore the mansion to the Madison era. During the three day celebration you will be able to witness the restoration in progress.

There will be a new conference center on the grounds as well. It should be completed by June 2007. We are planning to hold some of the activities at the new center.

The timing of the reunion is of historical significance. Virginia will be celebrating its 400th Anniversary. Our reunion will also be a part of this special period of Virginia's history. The descendants of slaves and friends will be honoring the contributions African-Americans made not only to Montpelier but to Virginia and to this nation before and after emancipation.

The Reunion Committee is looking forward to seeing you at Montpelier on June 8 - 10, 2007.

Because there are a small number of hotels and inns in the immediate area, be sure to make your reservations early. We hope to have registration materials available soon. Check our web site for updates, or sign up for our Reunion Announcements mailing list

Very sincerely yours,

Rebecca Gilmore Coleman
